Configuring MathGPT.ai as an external tool in Brightspace
This guide helps you connect MathGPT.ai to Brightspace so instructors can add MathGPT content to their courses. You’ll (1) register the tool, (2) make it available to courses, and (optionally) (3) set up deep linking for easier content selection.
FOR ADMINISTRATORS
Step 1: Register the MathGPT.ai tool in Brightspace
- Log in as an administrator.
- From the top-right gear menu, select Manage Extensibility.
- Select LTI Advantage from the tabs.
- Select the Register Tool button.
- Select Dynamic for the tool registration type.
- For the tool initiation registration endpoint, use this value:
https://mathgpt-api.tutoruniverse.com/lti/brightspace/dynamic-registration - Select Configure Deployment.
- Click Register.
- A page with the message: “Registration completed successfully” appears. Click Done to finish creation.
- Inside the new registered LTI registration app page, please remember to enable the app.
Step 2: Make MathGPT.ai available in Brightspace courses
After the LTI registration app is created successfully, a new corresponding Deployment is also created under the LTI Advantage tab in the External Learning Tool.
- In the top-right, select the gear icon, then choose External Learning Tool.
- Open the LTI Advantage tab.
- Open the newly created Deployment corresponding to the LTI Registration app created in Step 1.
- Double check these settings:
- Tool : The tool created in Step 1
- Name: A default name (this can be changed)
- Extensions: Please enable
- Assignment and Grade Services
- Names and Role Provisioning Services
- Security Settings: Please enable
- User Information (all)
- Classlist including users not known to this deployment
- Configuration Settings: Please enable
- Grades created by LTI will be included in Final Grade
- Click Add Org Units. A modal opens.
- Select Type: Organization
- Choose your Org Unit
- In options, select this org unit and all descendants.
- Then click Add.
- After finishing setup, click Save & Close or click view links to view deep linking (Step 3).
Ensure the deployment is shared with the correct org units and courses.
Step 3: Set up deep linking
- In External Learning tools/ LTI advantage tabs, search and open your MathGPT.ai deployment.
- Select the View Links link at the bottom of your MathGPT.ai deployment page.
- You will see a new link has been created. Click into the link to double check following details:
- Name: MathGPT.ai Content Links
- URL:
https://mathgpt-api.tutoruniverse.com/lti/brightspace/launch - Description: MathGPT.ai Content Links
- Type: Deeplinking Quick Link
- Width: 1200
- Height: 800
- Click Save and Close
- Make sure the link is enabled.
FOR INSTRUCTORS
Add MathGPT.ai to a BRIGHTSPACE course
If you don’t have a MathGPT course yet: Create it first in MathGPT.ai
If you already have a MathGPT course: Skip the step above.
- In BRIGHTSPACE, open your course (which is not connected to any MathGPT course).
- Go to Content, then click + New Unit. Create an unit for MathGPT content
- In the new unit, choose Add existing then select
- Select the MathGPT deep linking (name depends on how your admin set up in Step 3).
- Authenticate MathGPT by using your MathGPT account (if required)
- Pick the MathGPT course and the item you want to add, then Save.
- Publish the new item and set availability, due dates, and sections as needed.
Troubleshooting
MathGPT doesn’t appear in Add existing: Contact your Brightspace admin to confirm the LTI is installed and the Deployment and LTI tool are enabled.
